Gio Reyna was in the starting lineup for the United States for the first time since a World Cup qualifier in El Salvador on September 2. The 19-year-old suffered a hamstring injury in that match, which led to a series of events that marred his 2021. 22 season. Reyna wore the number 21 jersey, which his father, former US captain Claudio Reyna, wore 42 times.

Matt Turner in goal, Sergino Test at right back, Walker Zimmerman and Aaron Long at center back and Sam Vines at right back. Tyler Adams in central midfield, Weston McKenney and Luca de la Torre in central midfield, Reyna and Brendan Aaronson on the wings and Jesus Ferreira at forward.

Due to injuries and suspensions, Pulisic, Adams and McKenney have started together just four times: a 2019 friendly against Ecuador, World Cup qualifiers against Honduras and Canada in January and a June friendly against Uruguay.

Turner started eight of the 14 qualifiers, with Steffen scoring the rest.

Vines will be playing in his ninth international tournament and first since August 1, 2021. Test is playing for the United States for the first time since the Jan. 30 qualifier in Canada.

Zimmerman leads the Americans for the sixth time.

The Americans, back at the World Cup after missing the 2018 tournament, begin against Wales on Nov. 21, play England four days later and conclude the first round against Iran on Nov. 29.

Japan, which is preparing for its seventh consecutive World Cup, begins against Germany on Nov. 23, meets Costa Rica four days later and Dec. 1 and concludes group play against Japan.
