The Chargers’ Justin Herbert is listed as questionable but Vegas betting markets say he could miss Week 3.

Los Angeles Chargers Justin Herbert is confident he can play Sunday when they host the Jacksonville Jaguars. Despite being limited on Wednesday and Thursday and not participating in Friday’s practice, the team officially listed him as questionable. The quarterback suffered broken ribs late in Los Angeles’ Week 2 loss to the Chiefs in Kansas City.

With that game being the Thursday night opener of the week, Herbert has 10 days between games, but whether or not he’ll be under center in Week 3 still seems like a roll of the dice. If you ask the betting markets, they are seemingly pretending he won’t be available.

As of Monday, the Chargers were a 7-point home favorite against Jacksonville at Caesars Sportsbook. That lasted until Thursday, but began to swing dramatically on Friday afternoon, possibly reacting to Herbert not practicing. The line dipped to Chargers-6 at 2:26 pm ET and in about a half-hour span the line dipped to Chargers-3 and currently stands at that mark.

Translation: Contrarians think that Herbert will be excluded.

“I don’t know,” said Herbert told reporters on Friday When asked if he would play. “We still have two days to make a decision. We don’t play today, so we will play on Sunday. Whatever the plan, I know our team will be ready to do our best. That decision will be made on Sunday. Nothing is ruled out.”

Head coach Brandon Staley said he considers Herbert day-to-day and will monitor his progress through Sunday. Staley confirmed that Chase Daniels will get the start if Herbert misses the game.

In his career, Daniel has started five games and owns a 2-3 record in those starts. His most recent start came back in Week 5 of the 2019 season when he was a member of the Chicago Bears. In a 24-21 loss to the Raiders, Daniel finished 22 of 30 for 231 yards, two touchdowns and two picks.

Of course, while Herbert’s status fluctuates in the betting markets, his injury isn’t the only one worth watching on the Chargers, as wide receiver Keenan Allen (hamstring) is listed as questionable after missing Week 2. Starting cornerback JC Jackson (ankle) and starting center Corey Linsley (knee) are officially listed as questionable.
