Randy Arosarena and Yandy Diaz of the Tampa Bay Rays got into an argument after Monday’s game.

ST Petersburg, Fla. — Rays teammates Yandy Diaz and Randy Arosarena got into an argument after Monday’s 4-0 loss to the Houston Astros, prompting Tampa Bay manager Kevin Cash to bench both players for Tuesday’s 5-0 loss to Houston.

Arosarena told reporters Wednesday night that there was no physical contact with Diaz and that there were a few minor things they needed to look out for. He said things are good between the pair.

“These players, I think we owe it to them to keep in the clubhouse what’s going on in the clubhouse,” Cash said before Wednesday night’s game with Houston. “I’m not going to confirm or deny anything, anything, but I’m sure we’ve gone through everything.”

Arosa Arena, the breakout star of the 2020 postseason who won the 2021 AL Rookie of the Year, was in the lineup Wednesday. Diaz is out again with a recent left shoulder injury.

“His left shoulder just barked a little bit at the end of his swing,” Kash said.

Tampa Bay enters Wednesday a half game ahead of Seattle for the second of three AL wild cards.

Arosarena was watching Tuesday’s game from the Rays’ bullpen.

“I didn’t know he was in the bullpen, but I couldn’t care less where he was,” Cash said. “If I wanted him to hit, I’m sure he would have run down very quickly.”
