NIA arrested 45 PFI leaders after raids across 15 states


The National Investigation Agency (NIA), Enforcement Directorate (ED) and police forces jointly conducted one of the biggest anti-terror operations on Thursday. Test at homes and offices of Popular Front of India (PFI) workers in 15 states and more than 100 people have been arrested for allegedly financing terrorism and supporting terrorist activities in the country.

“Five cases registered for involvement of PFI leaders and cadres in financing terrorism, terrorist activities and radicalization of people were raided by ED, NIA and state police forces at 93 locations in 15 states,” it said in a statement.

Even as the PFI announced a bandh (strike) in Kerala on Friday in protest, the raids by the Central Intelligence Agency drew condemnation from the opposition.
