LSU star wide receiver Kayshon Boutte will miss Saturday’s game against New Mexico to attend the birth of his child.

Tigers coach Brian Kelly said after Thursday’s practice that Bode will miss the game, saying the team will back the junior from New Iberia, Louisiana. Bute and his girlfriend give birth to a baby boy.

ESPN ranks Boutte as the top wide receiver and the No. 6 overall prospect in the 2023 NFL Draft.

Boutte started the season slowly, recording 10 receptions for 93 yards and no touchdowns in three games. He had 38 receptions for 509 yards and nine touchdowns in six games last season before an ankle injury cost him the final six games. After LSU’s coaching change to Kelly, Boote was the subject of transfer rumors, but confirmed his return in December.

He did not participate in spring training while rehabbing an ankle. Sep. Bute had just two receptions for 20 yards in LSU’s season-opening loss to Florida State on 4, prompting a conversation with Kelly.

“His standards are very high,” Kelly said on Sept. 6. “It wasn’t his best game. But he plays great games. He’s someone I don’t worry about in our offense.”

As a true freshman in 2020, Boot recorded 735 receiving yards and five touchdowns on 45 receptions. ESPN rated him the top recruit in the state and the 33rd overall player in the class.
