Latur Exit Poll Results 2019: Will record holder Amit Deshmukh's seat be trapped?
New Delhi. Amit Deshmukh is in the fray from Maharashtra’s Latur assembly seat (Maharashtra assembly elections 2019). His younger brother Dheeraj Deshmukh is in the fray on a Congress ticket from the neighboring Latur rural seat adjacent to this. Amit and Dheeraj are sons of former Maharashtra Chief Minister Vilasrao Deshmukh. The seat of Latur is considered a stronghold of the Deshmukh family. Vilasrao Deshmukh rose to the post of Chief Minister of the state by winning the election from Latur itself. If exit polls are to be believed, Amit’s victory in Latur seat is difficult as this seat seems to be stuck for him.

Now Amit Deshmukh, the eldest son of late Vilasrao Deshmukh, is contesting the third consecutive election from Latur seat on a Congress ticket. Earlier, he had won the 2009 and 2014 assembly elections. Despite the Modi wave in 2014, Amit Deshmukh retained the hold of the family stronghold. He got 119656 votes in the 2014 assembly elections. He defeated BJP candidate Shailesh Govindkumar Lahoti. Whereas in the 2009 assembly elections, Amit Deshmukh got 113006 votes and defeated BSP candidate Mohammad Khan Pathan. Amit Deshmukh’s victory is considered to be the fourth biggest victory in Maharashtra.

Latur is considered a Congress stronghold. Vilas Rao Deshmukh has won the election five times from here. He won elections from this seat in the years 2004, 1999, 1991, 1985 and 1980. Whereas before Vilasrao, Shivraj Patil has won the elections from here in 1973 and 1978 on Congress ticket.

Amit Deshmukh learned the skills of politics from the company of his father. Staying under the umbrella of his father, he kept on learning to deal with the administration as well as the people of the region and the party. He understood and fulfilled the responsibilities of his father very well. For 10 years, he helped his father in administrative and political work and supported him. In 2014, he was made a minister of state in the Prithviraj Chavan government of Maharashtra.

Amit Deshmukh is known as ‘Amit Bhaiya’ in his constituency. He is in constant touch with the people of the area and keeps on communicating about their problems and needs. Amit is very soft spoken, restrained and balanced in his speech. Amit Deshmukh was born on 21 March 1976. At the age of 21, he participated in the Latur Municipal Council. In 1999, he was also a part of the campaign team of Shivraj Patil’s Lok Sabha elections.

Dheeraj Deshmukh is trying his luck in the electoral riot for the first time from Latur Rural seat. Amit and Dheeraj Deshmukh’s election campaign was commanded by his third brother actor Riteish Deshmukh. He, along with wife Genelia D’Souza, continued to campaign for the brothers and appealed for votes. Amit Deshmukh is married to TV actress Aditi Ghorpade and they have two children.
