ST Petersburg, Fla. — Houston Astros second baseman Jose Altuve was hit in the left elbow by a pitch during Wednesday night’s 5-2 win over the Tampa Bay Rays and left an inning later with elbow discomfort.

Manager Dusty Baker said Altuve will miss Thursday night’s four-game series opener at Baltimore, but could be ready to return Friday.

“He’s going to be offended,” Baker said. “It caught him right under the pad, right in the elbow. Anyone who’s been elbowed knows how much that hurts.”

With two outs and a runner on first, Altuve was hit by an 89 mph pitch from Rays right-hander Corey Kluber. He was replaced by Mauricio Dubon in the sixth inning.

Altuve finished 1-for-2. He is batting .295 with 25 homers and 53 RBIs this season.
