Green Bay, Wis. — John Runyon Jr. I asked for theories — or conspiracy theories. It was the father of the Green Bay Packers left guard who handed his son’s teammate, Tampa Bay Buccaneers receiver Mike Evans, a one-game suspension Sunday this week.

That’s the job of John Runyon Sr., the NFL’s vice president of rules and policy management. This is a post the former player has held since 2016.

“He was just doing his job,” Runyon Jr. said. said Wednesday. “He’s been doing that job for over half a decade now. We’re playing the Buccaneers this week. Everybody’s trying to turn it into this conspiracy theory, and it’s not.”

Runyon Sr. Evans’ suspension was ruled on Monday for the receiver’s role in Sunday’s altercation with New Orleans Saints cornerback Marshawn Lattimore. Evans’ appeal was heard by appeals officer James Thrash, who upheld the suspension on Wednesday.

“My dad does his job,” Runyon Jr. said. said. ,[It was a] Judgment failure in the field. Sometimes, those things happen. A whole conspiracy theory going down, that’s not true. That’s how it goes. You can’t run 15 yards after a play to head hunt someone. However, it’s funny how things work out sometimes.”

Runyon Sr. Played 14 NFL seasons (1996-2009). Runyon Jr. was a sixth-round pick of the Packers in 2020. He became the Packers’ starting left guard in 2021 and started each of the first two games this season.
