Adam Salah’s sensational heel flick saw Hungary stun hosts Germany 1-0 on Friday with one game remaining for a place in the Nations League final four.
The 34-year-old Hungary captain, who ends his international career after Monday’s final League A-Group 3 game against Italy, raced to the near post and fired the ball into the net from a corner in the 17th. Minute to freeze goalkeeper Marc Andre der Stegen on the spot.

Hungary beat England 4-0 in June, the hosts’ worst home defeat for 94 years, while Italy top the group with 10 points from 10 after beating England 1-0.
The Germans, who are third on six points, suffered their first defeat under coach Hansi Flick in the final pre-World Cup match in November and are no longer likely to qualify for the Nations League final four. England is second.
Germany were on the back foot from the start, starting in the absence of Manuel Neuer, who tested positive for Covid-19, and Ter Stegen had to save them in the 25th when he stopped Daniel Gastak’s effort from close range.
With no energy and no real threat, the hosts had to wait 27 minutes before Hungary had a shot on target, Leroy Sane’s long-range effort flying over Peter Gulachi’s crossbar.
Sane did well in the 51st but Gulachi denied the German forward. The home side were sharp after the break and had plenty of possession, but carved out few chances after 69 minutes with Timo Werner’s solo strike.
