Work like a professional
After signing, May made his professional debut with the Arizona League Dodgers. He spent the entire season there, going 0-1 with a 3.86 ERA and 34 strikeouts in 3023 innings. In 2017, he played for both the Great Lakes Loons and the Rancho Cucamonga Quakes. In 25 games (24 starts) for both teams, he had a combined record of 9-6, a 3.63 ERA and a 1.15 WHIP. In 2018, he was named to the All-Star team for the Quakes in the California League. On September 14, he started the title-winning playoff game for the Drillers. He gave up two runs over five innings. Between Rancho Cucamonga and Tulsa, he made 23 starts and went 9-5 with a 3.39 ERA.
