New Delhi: As James Cameron’s ‘Avatar’ re-releases in theaters worldwide on Friday, September 23, the remastered footage in 4K, High Dynamic Range and 9.1 has fans and viewers in awe. Gets compliments. Fans and viewers took to social media platforms like Twitter to share their appreciation for the highest-grossing movie of all time and their anticipation for the ‘Avatar: The Way of Water’ sequel.
Interestingly, the re-release of ‘Avatar’ has generated a respectable box office response worldwide. In India alone, thanks to National Cinema Day on September 23, discounted ticket prices saw a boom and ₹1 crore worth of tickets were sold in bookings alone. Trade analysts like Ramesh Bala are predicting that the ‘Avatar’ re-release will already be number one in international markets. Analysts have also predicted that Avatar’s re-release will collect Rs 5 crore in India over the weekend, despite stiff competition from ‘Brahmastra’, which is selling house-full shows, especially on National Cinema Day.
Globally, Avatar was released in five international markets on Thursday. ‘Avatar’ opened in France, Saudi Arabia, Belgium, the Philippines and France on Thursday, and $877k worth of tickets were sold in these markets, The Collider reports.
According to a report by CNBC, US-based analysts are predicting the film to collect between $7 and $12 million in the North American market on Friday. Other trade sources say it could make around $15-20 million on the first day alone, including markets in India.
Avatar is the highest-grossing film of all time with a worldwide box office gross of around $2.8 billion. It briefly lost the title to ‘Avengers: Endgame’ in 2021, but after it was re-distributed in China later that year, additional revenue pushed it back to the top. This third release will once again cement its position on the scale.
Months ahead of the release of its long-awaited sequel ‘Avatar: The Way of Water’, posts doing the rounds on Twitter have fueled anticipation among fans.
