In the first term of the Modi government at the Center, such cases had become common when some people returned the Sahitya Akademi awards in protest against the government, but a case has come to the fore in Aligarh, Uttar Pradesh in which it is alleged that Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) has withdrawn the PhD degree awarded to one of its students just because the student praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi. However, the Aligarh Muslim University administration is calling these allegations baseless.

On Tuesday, Aligarh Muslim University PhD scholar Danish Rahim alleged that the university has asked him to return his PhD degree because he had praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the media. Danish Rahim has written a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath seeking their intervention on this issue. Danish told that he was given a PhD degree by the university in March 2021 but in August 2021 he receives a letter saying that his degree is wrong.

Danish also told that in December last year, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had addressed a program of AMU and after that he had praised Prime Minister Modi in the media. He alleged that after praising Prime Minister Modi, he started being treated badly at AMU and when he was to appear for PhD, the chairman called him and said that he should not speak openly towards any political party.

However, the AMU administration has termed Danish’s allegations as baseless. Aligarh Muslim University spokesperson Saifai Kidwai said that he has an MA from Danish University and a PhD in Languages ​​of Advertising and Marketing (LAM) from the Linguistics Department, he said that the Linguistics Department of the university also gives a PhD degree in Linguistics and mistakenly it was Danish. She has been awarded a degree in Linguistics while she has done her PhD in LAM. Saifai Kidwai said that this mistake will be rectified and politics has nothing to do with this incident.
